Hildesheimer Wallungen 2025

The great festival of culture from the 4th to the 6th of July 2025

The Hildesheim Wallungen are back: from the 4th to the 6th of July 2025, the great festival of culture will enter its ninth round. Every two years since 2009, the Hildesheim Wallungen have been turning paths, lakes, churches, and hidden places into venues for music, theater, art, literature, and magical moments.

The historic ramparts, once built for defence and marking the border, now stand for participation and openness. Several thousand visitors flock across the area – from the Kehrwiederturm to Ehrlicher Park and Hohnsensee. They celebrate, play, discover, and marvel together.

Colourful stands, tents and stages create small worlds full of stories, sounds, and encounters. Well-known artists alternate with promising newcomers. Then, after dark, the ‘Quiet Night of Culture’ brings a living room atmosphere on to the ramparts.

The year 2025 will once again see exciting highlights and inspiring collaborations. Among other things, the ‘Betonblüten’ project will culminate at the Wallungen. In the Hildesheim region, international artists are designing not only colourful facades, but also movable walls. These will be exhibited as a ‘Wall of Regions’.

The Hildesheim Wallungen 2025 are part of the first KulturRegionale, a festival format that emerged as a result of the application for the European Capital of Culture 2025. Here, established and newly created cultural events celebrate the great potential of the Hildesheim cultural region together.
Detailed information on the programme, the area, and visitor accessibility will follow shortly. For tickets and admission prices, see Tickets.

Market & Museums

Some institutions close by will open their doors during the Wallungen weekend: On saturday and sunday, visitors with Wallungen tickets will have free admission into the Cathedral Museum (Dommuseum), the Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum, as well as the exhibition „(un)learning the machine“ at the Hildesheim „Kunstverein“. The much-loved creative market on the HAWK campus invites Wallungen visitors to browse – with unique handmade items ranging from arts and crafts to design.

Programme app Aikata

This year, we are doing without a printed programme guide for the first time. You will find all the
information in the app “Aikata” starting in mid-June – free of charge and available without downloading, directly in your browser. This way, you can put together your personal festival programme in advance and always stay up to date. In addition, we will provide you with a printed site plan with an overview of the stage programme at the entrance.

Accessibility

The ramparts are lovely, but not universally accessible. The main paths can be navigated by wheelchair
users. A Malteser bus service will take people with disabilities to and from the ramparts. There are
disability-friendly toilets in all three areas. Sign language interpreters will be on site for some programme items. Check our website and the programme app for all the latest information on accessibility.

Awareness

At the Wallungen, everyone wants to have a great time and feel comfortable. This includes treating each
other with respect. If you experience or observe unpleasant, overwhelming or threatening situations, our
awareness team will be there for you throughout the festival. You will find support and a safe haven in our awareness tent. It is located at the „Ernst-Ehrlicher-Park“ opposite the Rose Labyrinth.
